The 3E series BMR464 digital PoL regulator from Ericsson Power Modules enables systems architects to monitor and dynamically control the energy that is delivered to processors, FPGAs, and ASICs. The regulator can parallel up to seven modules and offer a maximum output current of 280A. The devices are suitable for radio basestations, industrial automation, process control, transportation and large data centres. The regulator measures 30.85x20x8.2mm and can be used in systems with 15mm board pitch. It accepts input voltages from 4.5 to 14V and has an output voltage range of 0.6 to 3.3V. A synchronisation feature allows several regulators to be locked to a common switching frequency in order to eliminate beat frequencies that can be reflected back to the input. This reduces EMI filtering complexity and the number of external components needed. Phase spreading reduces input capacitance requirements, and hence losses, because the peak current drawn from the input supply is spread over the whole switching cycle. The regulator also has current sharing rail that can be configured to enable 100% use of the output of each device. It features circuit protection and provides signaling for remote control, power good, current sharing, voltage tracking, and voltage margining purposes.
