Hittite Microwave has introduced three ADCs that are suitable for digital storage oscilloscopes. The HMCAD1520, HMCAD1511 and HMCAD1510 ADCs feature integrated crosspoint switches that allow switching between quad, dual and single channel modes. The ADCs also feature integrated one to 8x clock dividers that keep the input clock frequency constant when the number of channels is changed. The HMCAD1511 ADC features 8bit resolution at a sample rate of 1Gsamples/s. At 1Gsamples/s and 710mW, the ADC enables the implementation of USB powered oscilloscopes up to 1Gsamples/s. The ADC's size and power make it suitable for oscilloscopes up to 4Gsamples/s. The HMCAD1520 ADC provides up to 12bit resolution at up to 640Msamples/s. The HMCAD1511 is available as an operational mode for the HMCAD1520, allowing combined 12 and 8bit implementations. The HMCAD1510 features 8bit resolution at up to 500Msamples/s. The device consumes 295mW, making it suitable for handheld battery powered oscilloscopes. All three ADCs can be evaluated with the company's EasySuite EKIT01-AD1520, EKIT-AD1511 and EKIT-AD1510 evaluation kits. The ADCs are based on Xilinx FMC (FPGA mezzanine card) SP601 standard motherboards, and feature evaluation boards with on-board ADCs connected to the board through an FMC connector.
