Analog Devices has introduced two 1W RF driver amplifiers that have the ability to cover the entire cellular frequency range used in wireless communications systems. The ADL5605 and ADL5606 driver amplifiers provide two stages integrate gain and are pin-compatible and save significant board space. The RF driver amplifiers integrate internal active biasing and a shutdown function for applications such as wireless energy metering that transmit intermittently. They are also suitable for wired and wireless applications such as cellular infrastructure, industrial, science, and medical band power amplifiers, and defence and instrumentation equipment.

The amplifiers provide flat gain and high output third-order intercept (OIP3) specifications and eliminate the need to compensate for gain loss. The ADL5605 amplifier provides a flat gain of 23dB, a P1dB of 31.1dBm, an OIP3 of 44.3dBm and a noise figure of 4.8dB at 943MHz. The ADL5606 amplifier provides a flat gain of 23.8dB, a P1dB of 30.7dBm, an OIP3 of 45.7dBm and a noise figure of 4.8dB at 2140MHz. The ADL5605 amplifier consumes 312mA whereas the ADL5606 consumes 360mA on a single 5-V supply. They are packaged in a 4x4mm lead frame chip scale package and operate from -40 to +85°C.
