Laird Technologies has released the enhanced Bluetooth BTM510, BTM511 and BTM520, BTM521 wireless stereo audio modules with a firmware update. The firmware supports digital audio through an I2S bus and supports universal GPIO (general purpose input and output) functions for mapping GPIOs to specific audio and video remote control profile functions. It also includes a licence-free version of CSR's aptX audio codec technology for good Bluetooth stereo audio quality. Using non-destructive coding techniques, the audio codec for Bluetooth A2DP preserves the full wired audio quality of stereo transmitted over the 2.4GHz industrial, scientific and medical band. The company offers a range of wireless modules that use Bluetooth technology, in addition to integrated antennas and electronic components.
