Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a range of FIFO memories with maximum densities of 72Mbit. The high-density FIFOs are suitable for video and imaging applications which require high density and high frequency for effective buffering. They offer enhanced signal integrity and operate at 133MHz frequency, making them suitable for buffering video frames. The company claims that the FIFOs offer up to eight separate directly addressable queues to enable designers to stream multiple video channels simultaneously. The FIFOs enable designers to use a small FPGA and reduce design complexity, according to the company. They are available in 18-, 36- and 72Mbit densities and support multiple I/O standards, including 3.3 and 1.8V low-voltage CMOS. The FIFOs are available in a 209-ball grid array package.
