The ADXL206 low power, dual-axis iMEMS accelerometer from Analog Devices has signal conditioned analogue voltage outputs. The device measures acceleration with a range of ±5 g and measures both dynamic acceleration such as tilt and static acceleration such as gravity. The guaranteed operating temperature range is -40 to +175°C and it has excellent overall stability, claims the company, features which make the accelerometer suitable for use in high-temperature industrial applications, such as geological down-hole tools. There is essentially no quantisation error or non-monotonic behaviour, and the temperature hysteresis is low, typically less than 2mg over the temperature range. The compact accelerometer also lowers power consumption by an order of magnitude from over 10 to less than 0.5mA/axis. Typical noise floor is 110μg/√Hz, allowing signals below 1mg (0.06° of inclination) to be resolved in tilt sensing applications using narrow bandwidths of less than 60Hz. Bandwidths of 0.5Hz to 2.5kHz can be selected according to the specific needs of a particular application. The accelerometer is available in a 13×8×2mm, eight-lead, side-brazed, ceramic DIL package.
