ON Semiconductor has released a device for integrated ESD protection for use in notebooks, tablets, and external storage devices. The ESD7004 is designed to preserve signal integrity in high-speed applications such as USB 3.0 and eSATA. It offers 0.4picofarad rating and maintains low ESD clamping voltage. The ESD protection solution does not have any effect on eye diagrams of USB 3.0 at 5Gbit/s and eSATA at 6Gbit/s. They maintain an insertion loss of less than 1dB at over 8GHz during S21 measurements.
Using the company's ESD protection silicon, the device offers low clamping voltages and quick response time during ESD events. An ESD rating of 15kV contact as per the IEC61000-4-2 standard and turn on resistance during ESD events ensures the safety of chipsets from ESD threats.
