Intersil has released LED drivers that provide good current accuracy and channel matching for small- to medium-sized LCD backlights in smartphones, tablets and sub-notebooks. The ISL97682, ISL97683 and ISL97684 are two-, three-, and four-channel LED drivers that operate across an input voltage range of 4 to 26.5V and deliver outputs up to 45V. They can operate from 3V inputs and deliver outputs up to 26.5V in the bootstrap configuration, making them suitable for systems using single lithium-ion batteries. The LED drivers incorporate optional automatic switching between PWM and pulse frequency modulation modes. They feature current accuracy of 1.5% and channel-to-channel current matching of 0.7% and provide uniform backlighting for 6 to 15inch TFT LCD panels. The company claims that the drivers offer good power efficiency across the input voltage and output load range. The LED drivers are also suitable for industrial and automotive displays. They have an optional channel-to-channel phase shift control that reduces video and audio noise interference. The drivers have adjustable dimming frequency of up to 30kHz and eliminate audible noise. The LED drivers are available in a 3x3mm, 16pin TQFN package.
