The main focus of Link Microtek's stand at DSEi 2011 will be the operational Azdec wire-free, mobile communications system. It uses IR technology to provide secure, short-range voice communications for military applications. There will also be an opportunity to see the system in-situ on the bridge of a Royal Navy Type 45 Destroyer docked alongside DSEi's ExCeL venue. Other than the link from headset to battery pack, the system has no wires to restrict operator mobility. There are no radio-frequency emissions, making it impossible to detect the signals for secure, wire-free communications whilst operating under conditions of radio silence. The low-level IR digital encoding technology poses no health or EMC hazard and is immune to EMI - even severe energy pulses, says the company. As there are no radio-frequency emissions, the system will not cause interference with munitions, fuel or radio systems so can be operated where even low-power radio systems would cause interference or risk of explosion. The combination of compact basestation, fixed IR antennae, noise-attenuating or lightweight headsets, operators' belt-mounted battery packs/control units, and a central battery-charger unit is capable of providing multi-channel, full-duplex communications for areas up to 10,000 square metres.
