Samples are available now of the iCE40 Los Angeles mobileFPGA from SiliconBlue. The LP (low power) and HX (high speed) families target smartphones and tablets, respectively. Fabricated on TSMC 40nm CMOS, the company claims that they provide twice the logic capacity of previous, 65nm devices. In the industry's first 2.5x2.5mm micro plastic BGA, the LP-series provides support for sensor management, high-speed custom connectivity and convergence of HD video and imaging. The HX-series provides support for sensor management, high-speed custom connectivity and tablet resolution, HD video and imaging. Both range from 640 to 16k logic cells. The FPGAs extend the company's video performance capability for smartphones to 525Mbit/s, enabling HD720p 60Hz and HD1080p 30Hz and supports WUXGA with dual LVDS, HD720p 60Hz and HD1080p 30Hz modes for tablets. MIPI-DPI/DBI interface specification is also supported.
