The nRF2460 audio streamer IC is available from Nordic Semiconductor. The 2.4GHz IC delivers up to 100 hours of operation from two AAA batteries for cost-sensitive, mono audio or gaming microphones, sub-woofers and musical instruments. The company claims that it delivers uncompressed 16bit PCM digital mono audio - even in challenging RF interference environments. It has an integrated 4Mbit/s 2.4GHz radio and adaptive frequency hopping protocol. The IC includes smart retransmission of lost packets and minimal audible effects from lost data. The 4Mbit/s bandwidth provides space to support an auxiliary wireless data channel for user control such as volume or mute. The 6x6mm QFN can operate with a single 16MHz ±50ppm external crystal. The I²S, SPI and I²C interfaces can be used with external audio ADCs, DACs, and microcontrollers.
