Kontron has introduced its universal single-width AdvancedMC processor module AM4120. This board is the first member of a Kontron AdvancedMC product family with the Freescale QorIQ processors. The AdvancedMC family is suitable for powerful data plane and control plane applications. The device provides AdvancedTCA and MicroTCA system designs long-term availability, support of various fabrics and a performance per watt ratio.
The processor module is equipped with the Freescale QorIQ P2020 dual core processor with up to 1.2GHz and based on the power architecture e500. Application reliability is ensured with features such as the redundant universal bootloader U-Boot and persistent memory for cycle data storage. A dedicated MMC (module management controller) supports basic IPMI commands and is used for board management, enabling operators to monitor the status of the AdvancedMC module in the system, simplifying system management and enhancing availability.
For data exchange, the processor features 4x SERDES lines routed to AMC ports 4 to 7, which are configured either as PCIe as root complex or end point or SRIO ports as host or agent for applications requiring close programming to the chip without extensive overhead. Additionally, it provides different boot options for the OS including from an exchangeable Micro SDHC card to simplify updates, a NOR Flash or the soldered NAND Flash for rugged applications. Depending on the requirements of the application, the processor module AM4120 can be used in system configurations with or without MCH. According to the company, this can reduce the development costs and speeds up the system development in areas such as industrial automation, medical, networking, telecom, military transportation and avionics. For rugged applications, it is available on a project basis for the extended temperature range.
