Meder Electronic has announced the non-contact, surface mount reed sensor with a 4mm KSK-1A04 base reed switch, which has a minimum life expectancy of 50 million operations at 5V, 5mA, 100Hz. The MK24 sensor measures 5x1.8x2.2mm and is available in both normally open and normally closed switch options. The normally open version is available with three-lead options such as straight cut axial, gull wing, and J lead and the closed option is available with gull wing and J lead designs. All the reed sensors are RoHS-compliant. The surface mount reed sensor is constructed of a rugged, over-moulded package that contains the hermetically sealed reed switch. Additionally, the reed sensor along with the switch is available in tape and reel packaging, and is suitable for automatic pick and place. According to the company, the reed sensor does not require external power for operation, and thus they are suitable for applications such as portable medical and electronic devices where space is restricted. The surface mount reed sensors are used as control switches or non-contact magnetic proximity sensors for counting, position, limit and liquid level detection applications.
