Two microcontrollers from Toshiba are for electronic control units compliant with the safety standard ISO 26262. The TMPM350FDTFG is for electric power steering control and the TMPM354F10TFG is for control of drive motors of hybrid and electric vehicles. Sampling begins this month with mass production in April 2013. The two safety microcontrollers use the single-core tightly coupled method with a CPU core with a dedicated monitoring circuit. Unlike conventional dual-core lock step method, the built-in monitoring circuit achieves immediate detection of internal system failure and can narrow down the location of the failure. The TMPM350FDTFG has an on-chip resolver to digital converter that converts signals from the motor resolver to digital data, resulting in a smaller footprint.
