Integrated Device Technology has expanded its range of clock and timing solutions with the addition of a low-jitter VCSO (voltage controlled surface acoustic wave oscillator) which meets the low BER (bit error ratio) requirements for the high speed 40 and 100G board designs used in telecomms and optical networking applications. The M690SDM low-noise VCSO has an analogue frequency multiplier and single-ended RF output with jitter at less than 270fs RMS integrated across the 20kHz to 20MHz frequency band. The oscillator is also available with an output frequency in the range of 1.5 to 2.1GHz. The oscillator provides 10dBm output power and is claimed to eliminate the need of an additional amplifier. The VCSO is housed in an SMT package and is available on a 13x20mm FR4 PCB with grounded metal cover to minimise system EMI.
