Samsung Electronics has announced volume production of SSDs (solid state drives) that support the SATA revision 3.0 interface with data transmissions at 6Gbit/s. The PM830 SSDs are available at 512, 256 and 128Gbyte densities. The SSDs are suitable for OEM notebooks and tablets.
The 512Gbyte SSD utilises the company's 20nm class 32Gbit MLC (multi-level cell) NAND memory chip incorporating the toggle DDR interface. The SSD is claimed to double the performance of a SATA 3Gbit/s drive, with sequential read speeds of 500Mbyte/s and sequential write speeds of 350Mbyte/s.
The drive also features security, which uses an AES (advanced encryption standard) 256bit encryption algorithm to protect personal or corporate data from unauthorised access.
