The EA DIP180B-5NLWTP display module from Electronic Assembly was designed for use in industrial controllers. As it is equipped with an analogue-resistive touch panel, applications involving user guidance and the display of information can be combined in a single unit.
The display module is a full-graphic display with a resolution of 180x32pixels; alphanumeric characters are displayed as graphics. Three integrated type SED1520 controllers are used to control the left, centre, and right sections of the display. A white LED background ensures for a crystal-clear picture and good readability under all lighting conditions.
The touch panel is linked to an external touch pad controller, or a controller with analogue inputs. The panel operates similarly to that of a potentiometer. When a specific voltage is applied to the top-bottom input of the controller, a voltage proportionate to the Y-position of the point of contact is read by the microcontroller's left-right input. The same process is applied when determining the point of contact for the X-axis. The output voltage that is then read by the top-bottom microcontroller's input and indicates the horizontal position of the point of contact.
The module is claimed to provide a high level of contrast and fast response times with the use of an LCD supertwist display. Even at operating temperatures of
-20°C, the display's response time is 2.5s.
The module features an automatic temperature compensation facility, which eliminates the need to adjust the contrast during operation, claims the company. The display operates between -20 and +70°C, making it suitable for industrial applications. The module can be soldered directly to the printed circuit board. According to the company, there is no more need for use of screws, distance holder, cable or other mechanical components.
