Toshiba Electronics Europe has launched a dual ARM core display controller for automotive applications requiring high-end 3D graphics. Typical resolutions are WVGA and beyond. The Capricorn-H is suitable for displays up to 12.3inch and combines two ARM Cortex-A9 cores with a dual output, five-plane graphics display controller, and 2Mbyte embedded SRAM. There are three-channel, full CAN transceiver, a MOST Media-LB interface and I2C, I2S and USB interfaces. The integrated 3D graphics engine supports dual programmable shader pipeline architecture. The 2D graphics engine provides rotation, transformation and scaling functions. The controller has a Magic-Square IP algorithm to realise dithering of 24bit graphics on an 18bit display. The controller is housed in a BGA516 package and is supported by the QNX Neutrino 6.5.0 RTOS.
