Using low-profile, size 2.2µH, inductors, the SC5010 eight-channel, white LED driver is from Semtech. It can power up to 112 LEDs, with currents up to 30mA/channel. The integrated control loop architecture allows programmable switching frequencies of 2.2MHz, says the company. The proprietary architecture is claimed to prevent display flicker and shutdown caused by line transients that can occur in automotive applications. The driver can handle line transients up to 10V/µs and features a PWM input dimming range of 5000:1 at 200Hz and a dimming frequency range from 100Hz to 30kHz. Full protection functions include open LED and programmable shorted LED, adjustable over-voltage and over-temperature protection, as well as under-voltage lock out shutdown. The LED driver features a VIN range of 4.5 to 27V, VOUT range of up to 50V, and programmable switching frequency from 200kHz to 2.2MHz. It is housed in a 28pin MLPQ package with exposed thermal pad. It is suitable for LCD backlighting in LCD monitor applications, including audio/video module, seatback infotainment, instrument cluster in automotives and LCD display backlight, ultrabook PC, ultra-mobile PC, notebook PC, and tablet PC in consumer electronics.
