Power Integrations has introduced the DER-281 reference design, a 15W PAR38 downlight driver that is claimed to deliver flicker-free dimming without the use of unreliable high-voltage electrolytic bulk capacitors. Based on the company's LNK405EG LED driver IC, the design's approach to dimming enables flicker-free performance across a range of TRIAC (triode for alternating current) dimmers, claims the company. Single-stage LinkSwitch-PH ICs, combined with the active damping and bleeding circuitry employed in the reference design, is claimed to provide flicker-free dimming with high efficiency and long lifetime.
