Diodes has introduced a pair of synchronous DC/DC buck converters. The AP6502 and AP6503 are designed for use in digital TV, LCD monitors and set-top boxes. The buck converters can handle continuous load currents of up to 2 or 3A, depending on the model, and are suitable for distributed power architectures. The converters can support 12 and 5V bus systems and can achieve efficiency rates of 95%, says the company. The output voltage is set using an external resistor divider, down to 0.925V. The buck converters have a switching frequency of 340kHz, and incorporate low RDS(ON) high and low side power MOSFETs, reducing the need for external components. There is also an external, programmable soft start control input and thermal shutdown. The converters are available in an SO-8EP package.
