Diodes has introduced a device that delivers robustness and protection for the USB (universal serial bus) interface in a multitude of applications, where heavy capacitive loads and short-circuits could occur when connecting devices via the USB port, claims the company.
The AP2337 is suitable for use in not only traditional computing devices such as desktops, servers, laptops, monitors and network routers, but also home entertainment equipment such as HD set-top boxes and flat-screen HDTVs.
The 1A single-channel integrated high-side power switch is optimised for both self-powered and bus-powered applications. It also features 3 to 5V hot swapping applications, where peripherals or portable gadgets are connected to, and disconnected from, a desktop or laptop computer without requiring a system reboot, claims the company. The switch is compliant with USB 2.0 and 3.0 standards.
Protection capabilities of the switch include fast short-circuit response time of 5µs, preventing system shutdown and restart; built-in output-discharge functionality; low on-resistance of 110mΩ over 1A continuous load, minimising; reverse current blocking; and output over-voltage protection. The switch is available in an SOT23 package. The switch, which is UL recognised (pending) and IEC 60950-1 (CB scheme) certified, offers 3kV HBM (human body model) and 300V MM (machine model) ESD protection.
