SATA storage systems for embedded defence applications are available from Microsemi. The compact MSM37 and MSM75 are each packaged as a single 32x28mm 522 plastic BGA and provide up to 75Gbyte of NAND flash solid state storage. They can be used where a 2.5inch storage device is too large. Security features include AES-128 encryption, self-destruct capability and whole-module erase with a push-button trigger option, which are essential for mission-critical defence and aerospace applications, ruggedised mobile systems, surveillance, avionics, navigation and ruggedised portable storage. There are 37 and 75Gbyte densitities offered. Each device includes a single supply with extended hold-up time without super caps or batteries, while the BGA saves up to 60% board space when compared with a similar PCB design, claims the company.
