A tactile switch suitable for OEM applications such as automotive instrumentation, medical equipment and process control applications has been unveiled by Omron Electronic Components. The long stroke B3AL switch is a two terminal switch featuring a high operating force. Available in four versions, with operating forces of 1.96, 2.45, 3 and 3.50N, the switch has a pre-travel of 1.3mm which is achieved by using a rubber plunger, according to the company. Dimensions are 6.9x6x5mm. The switch is rated for switching currents of 1mA at 5V DC to a maximum of 50mA at 16V DC with a resistive load, and features an insulation resistance of 100MΩ at 100V DC and a contact resistance of 100mΩ. The switch operates from -40 to +90°C and weighs 0.18g. The switch is available in a 12mm tape and reel.
