GE Intelligent Platforms has announced the Wolverine III rugged flat panel computer that is designed to withstand the rigours of deployment in harsh, hazardous locations such as oil and gas exploration and drilling, resisting salt, spray, dust, shock, vibration and extremes of temperature. The resistive 15inch anti-glare, scratch-resistant touchscreen is readable even in direct sunlight, claims the company. The computer can operate at -20 to +60°C and weighs 22.5lbs. An optional heater allows operation at -40 to +60°C. The computing platform is a COM Express module and carrier board designed by the company. The panel features a 32Gbyte solid state disk drive. On-board system monitoring allows potential failures to be identified to minimise disruptions. The flat panel is available in a NEMA 4, environmentally sealed, corrosion-resistant enclosure and is suitable for data gathering.
