Kontron has extended its COM (computer-on-module) Express basic ETXexpress-SC COM product family with three entry-level modules equipped with the Intel Celeron dual core processor and Intel HM65 platform controller hub. The Intel Celeron processor-based SKUs (stock keeping units) are entry-level additions to the company's COM line, based on Intel's monolithic micro architecture. The COMs are available in nine different performance versions with Type 2 and Type 6 pin-out.
The COMs are suitable for applications that demand dual core processing and extended graphics capabilities, but do not require the extended features of the Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 versions, according to the company. The COMs' feature includes the energy-saving power-off state S5 Eco microampere mode, which minimises power consumption by a factor of 200 minimum, contributing to an overall green solution. They offer good video capabilities with DDI (digital display interfaces) for SDVO (serial digital video out), displayport and DVI or HDMI plus one CRT besides VGA of 2048x1536 and one 1600x1200 dual-channel 18 and 24bit LVDS output, the modules provide multi-display solutions with one platform supporting several displays. This makes the COMs a suitable fit for graphics-intensive applications in markets such as digital-signage, gaming systems, and HMIs in industrial automation and medical appliances. The modules are supported by the company's COM Express starterkit Type 6 and KEAPI (Kontron's embedded application interface).
The Intel Celeron versions of the COMs based on the platform controller hub are scalable up to the Intel Celeron B810E dual core processor with up to 16Gbyte dual-channel DDR3 SODIMM ECC RAM. The Type 6 SKUs are recommended for latest designs where as the Type 2 SKUs support PCI and IDE interfaces for a hassle-free upgrade of existing applications, claims the company. All versions feature 4x SATA and support 8.5 to 18V DC power supply.
The available standard operating systems include Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Embedded Standard 7, Linux, VxWorks and BSPs (board support packages).
