Renesas Electronics has announced the availability of the company's six 32bit microcontrollers, the SH726A and SH726B. The microcontrollers are suitable for car, home audio systems and industrial equipment. The microcontrollers are the latest members of the SH7260 family of microcontrollers with large-capacity on-chip SRAM, claims the company.

The microcontrollers provide large internal SRAM, support for serial flash memory and code fetching from quad serial memories. They also provide a proven media SDK (software development kit) when implementing audio codecs such as MP3, AAC (advanced audio coding), and WMA (windows media audio) and includes a media player, FAT (file allocation table) file system and Bluetooth profiles.

The microcontrollers are equipped with a bus controller that can connect the quad-SPI flash ROM of serial type. This minimises the number of pins required for connection, while maintaining access speeds equivalent to conventional parallel NOR flash, says the company. In addition, on-chip functions optimised for system control and data processing enable the low pin count in the entire microcontroller series.

The maximum CPU operating frequency of the microcontrollers is 216MHz. It is claimed to implement the operations such as digital audio signal processing at high speed. This makes the microcontroller suitable for use in products subject to a heavy processing load for sound stage processing, noise cancellation such as echo cancelling and noise suppression for hands-free calls over Bluetooth, in addition to audio playback, according to the company. The SH726B microcontroller also implement two USB channels on-chip, providing support for the connection of multiple USB devices of various types, including portable audio players and USB storage.

The microcontrollers support the data decoder middleware, device middleware for digital audio ISO 9660 file system middleware for CD-ROM applications, and FAT file system middleware for USB and SD memory. The microcontrollers are available in a total of six product versions, depending on the presence or absence of an on-chip CAN interface. There are four versions for the SH726A and two for the SH726B. The microcontrollers operate from -40 to +85°C. The SH726A is available in a 120pin QFP of 0.5 or 0.4mm pin pitch and the SH726B in a 144pin QFP of 0.5mm pin pitch lead-free package.
