Infineon Technologies has extended its family of switch-mode LED drivers for high power LEDs. The ILD (injection laser diode) series includes LED driver ICs with integrated power stage as well as external MOSFET. Three devices, the ILD4001, ILD4035 and ILD2035, are available in an SC-74 package with small form factor and the fourth device, ILD4120, is available in DSO-8 package with exposed pad. The ICs are suitable for general lighting applications, including MR16 halogen retrofits, residential and commercial luminaires, architectural lighting and street lamps. In addition to high output current range, the ICs have two different dimming methods, analogue and PWM dimming. The dimming can be implemented using PWM managed by a microcontroller or alternatively by analogue control voltage. The drivers offer over-current and over-temperature protection to protect the LEDs and the LED driver IC from thermal overstress and to extend the operating life of the LED lamps and fixtures. The ILD2035 is designed for MR16 lamps with 1W LEDs. The ILD4001 IC is incorporated into a stand-alone LED controller with an external MOSFET which is used as a power stage. The ICs include input voltages, from 4.5 to 42V for ILD4001 and 4.5 to 40V for ILD4035 and ILD4120.
