Advanced Micro Devices has introduced the AMD Radeon E6460 discrete graphics processor, which support up to four independent output displays and is claimed to have better desktop three-dimensional graphics performance compared to its predecessors. The graphical processor features an advanced three-dimensional graphics engine and a programmable shader architecture, which supports Microsoft DirectX 11 technology for good graphics rendering, says the company. The third-generation unified video decoder enables dual HD decode of H.264, VC-1, MPEG4 and MPEG2 compressed video streams. The 512Mbyte, graphic double data rate, five frame buffer included in the BGA package is claimed to provide high memory bandwidth. Target applications of the processor are in casino gaming, digital signage, instrumentation and industrial control systems. The BGA ballout of the processor is a subset of the AMD Radeon E6760 device. In this way, system designers can develop one system for both the processors, claims the company. Featuring multi-display support with AMD Eyefinity technology, the processor supports HDMI 1.4 stereoscopic video and DisplayPort 1.2 for high link speeds and is also claimed to simplify display connectivity.
