Claimed to have the fastest rise and fall times available, the HIP4086A is a low noise, 80V, 0.5A, three-phase bridge driver IC which has low EMI. It reduces switching losses and simplifies the development of flexible bridge-based PWM motor control designs, claims Intersil. Based on the company's HIP4086 N-channel MOSFET driver IC, it integrates three half-bridge gate drivers in a single package, replacing larger discrete circuits. It drives 1000pF loads and has a rise time of just 50ns (maximum over temperature) compared with competitive devices, which range from 120 to 200ns. The six N-channel MOSFET drivers can be driven independently so users can configure any switch combination and use the three-phase bridge driver IC either in brushless DC or switched reluctance motors. Programmable dead time of 0.25 to 4.5µs avoids cross-conduction or ‘shoot-through' current, to reduce EMI.
