A space-saving, AEC-Q100-qualified, dual synchronous, step-down DC/DC regulator from Intersil features a 2.25MHz switching frequency. The ISL78228 provides two independent 800mA outputs. The 3x3mm package makes it suitable for the confined spaces where power is needed in automotive, as well as in industrial, applications. A 2.75 to 5.5V input range allows powering from common 3.3 or 5V automotive module supply rails. Internal current-mode compensation provides fast transient response, allowing 100% duty cycle for low dropout. It also eliminates the need for external compensation components. Each channel has an independent enable pin and output voltage programming down to 0.6V. A 2ms digital soft-start minimises in-rush current, while the low 30uA quiescent current minimises standby power consumption. Typical efficiency is 95% at 5V in, 3.3V out at 250mA. The regulator is also TS16949-compliant.
