Two fibre optic transceivers from Melexis have been declared compliant to MOST, the standard for infotainment networks. The MLX75608 and MLX75605 transceivers are suitable for 25Mbit/s (LVTTL) and 150Mbit/s (LVDS) communications respectively. Fibre optic transceivers receive and transmit data (audio, video and navigation systems) transported inside the car over plastic optical fibres. The company claims that it is the first to offer a single-package solution in surface mount technology for both MOST25 and MOST150 standards. The transceivers are claimed to reduced the cost of ownership as they can be handled with automated pick and place equipment and lead-free reflow soldering processes can be used. For hybrid and electric vehicles in particular, the package is claimed to improve EMI performance.
