Avalue Technology has unveiled a flat screen multi-touch capacitive panel PC, the APC-18W5. It features an industrial-grade design and uses a projected capacitive, multi-touch screen with anti-scratch glass and 90% light transmission, which is claimed to make the screen colours vivid. The display is powered by the Intel Atom D525 dual-core processor and supports PWM automatic control function to adjust the LED backlight brightness, thus reducing power consumption and increasing energy-efficiency, claims the company. The panel PC is a lightweight, fanless design and is 59mm thick. The design features an IP55 front panel and supports VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) mounting from the back. The PC has programmable front buttons and has one COM port, two USB ports, one GbE port, PS2 keyboard and mouse, line out and a VGA port to drive a second display. The panel supports additional USB and Wi-Fi; other expansion can be implemented through two Mini-PCI Express slots. The display also features an onboard 1Gbyte DDR3 memory with an option to upgrade up to 4Gbyte, one Intel 82574L GbE, two 2W amplified speakers, with an input range of 12 to 28V, ErP power, and over current and surge protection.
