Yamaichi Electronics has launched the FUS006-8500-0, a card reader for micro-SIM 3FF (third form factor) cards. The card reader has a top-mount design with a flat construction and is 1.34mm high. It has outer dimensions of 16x14mm and also features six gold-plated contacts that are shaped to have two contact points. This shape is designed in such a way that it maintains reliable contact even when subjected to vibrations and shock, says the company. The reader is claimed to automatically stop a card being inserted in the wrong direction. The micro-SIM is removed using a small clip. A brief pull sets a mechanism in motion that pushes the card a certain distance out of the slot. Four ground connections are said to provide good EMI protection. The unit is mounted with SMT soldering on the top of the PCB.
