ALPS Green Devices has developed the GLMD Series Liqualloy power inductor for high-current applications such as CPU and GPU power supplies in notebook PCs, DC/DC converters for servers, LCD displays and non-portable game consoles. The inductor can be used in PoL power supplies. The company's proprietary Liqualloy is the core material used in the inductor; it is a metallic glass with magnetic properties. The adoption of this magnetic material has resulted in low losses, particularly when operating under light loads, claims the company. Similarly, the DC resistance is reduced by adopting assembly technology and proprietary winding technology, which in turn provides low losses and low heat generation under heavy loads, according to the company.
