STMicroelectronics has introduced a 32bit ARM Cortex-M processor-based STM32 F4 microcontrollers. The microcontrollers are pin-to-pin and software-compatible with the F2 series, and operate at a frequency of 168MHz. They offer single-cycle DSP instruction support and a floating point unit, SRAM of 192kbyte, embedded flash memory from 512kbyte up to 1Mbyte, and peripherals for imaging, connectivity and encryption. They provide fast data transfers, with a seven-layer multi-advanced high performance bus matrix and multi-DMA controllers, which allow concurrent execution and data transfers, says the company. They provide high integration, with up to 1Mbyte of on-chip flash memory, reset circuit, internal resistor-capacitor oscillators, PLLs, sub 1µA real-time clock with sub-second accuracy. They also provide connectivity through a camera interface, and an Ethernet MAC10/100 with IEEE 1588 v2 support. They have a dedicated audio PLL and two full duplex I2S and provide up to 15 communication interfaces including six USARTs running up to 10.5Mbits/s, three SPI running up to 42Mbits/s, three I2C, and secure digital IO. There are also two 12bit DACs, three 12bit ADCs reaching 2.4 or 7.2Msamples/s in interleaved mode. There are four variants such as STM32F405x, STM32F407, STM32F415 and STM32F417.
