Austriamicrosystems has announced its AS364X series of LED flash drivers for mobile phones, cameras and portable devices. The drivers support output currents from 320mA up to 2A for entry-level cell phones to high-end smartphones, tablets, digital still cameras and videocassette recorders. The LED drivers provide I2C programmable output currents and timings. They also provide security features as well as features for enhancing the picture quality in a mobile environment that enables the flash to operate down to low battery levels, claims the company.
Providing a complete flash solution excluding LED, the drivers are claimed to require less than 22mm2 of PCB board space. Additional high-end features include LED balancing, programmable flash, torch and autofocus modes, flash timing programmable in 8ms steps and LED short circuit 8kV ESD protection for the LED pins. The LEDs' features include programmable TxMask current, pre- and main flash with system shutdown protection, coil current limitation, thermal protection and LED open and short security.
The entry-level small flash drivers, the AS3644 and AS3642 feature programmable flash current and duration, video light, torch and autofocus light. These drivers provide LED flash currents up to 320mA for AS3644 and 500mA for AS3642, making them suitable for photo-flash.
The photo-flash LED driver AS3643, providing up to 1300mA of flash current for one LED, is suitable for mid-range mobile phones, digital video recorders and tablet PCs. The drivers are available in a space-saving WL-CSP and operates directly from a Li-ion battery between 2.7 and 4.4V over a -30 to +85°C temperature range.
