Use of Super CORR A lubricant is claimed to have prevented corrosion due to vibration on PCB connectors. Available in Europe from EnviroTech Europe, the lubricant incorporates a corrosion preventive compound, formulated without sulphates, chlorides or halogens. Due to the advances in gold plating technology, plating thickness is being reduced over the base substrate metal of connectors. As gold increases in price, the use of thinner gold coatings saves money. Through vibration and natural usage, the thickness of the gold plating also diminishes significantly over time, often resulting in failures caused by corrosion. Applying the lubricant to the parts prevented or delayed the corrosion and failures. The company undertook "rub-tests" to check the useful working life of the product. Tests demonstrated that after 200,000 cycles there was no indication of galling or scoring on the connectors.
