Virtualised cloud services and enterprise applications are driving an increased need for high performance SSL security with 2048bit keys, IPSec and compression. Delivering up to five times the SSL (HTTPS) performance compared to alternatives multi-chip designs wihin the same power budget, the Nitrox III processor is from Cavium. The security processor family is for compute-intensive application delivery and enterprise OEM use. They integrate 16 to 64 purpose-built security RISC cores and multiple compression engines to deliver up to 200k SSL ops, 40Gbit/s SSL and IPSec and 20Gbit/s compression processing. It also delivers virtualisation hardware with a PCI-Express Gen 2 16-lane interface. The processors can be designed into data centre, cloud infrastructure, enterprise and service provider equipment including application delivery controllers, cloud server offload, WAN optimisation appliances, UTM gateways, routers, switches and servers. The processors are software compatible with the company's Nitrox PX processors, that are used at tier one networking and security vendors, for increased scalability with seamless software re-use. The single chip processors are supported by the company's Nitrox software development kit.
