Following the launch of the SHT2x humidity and temperature sensors, Sensirion has launched a sensor designed exclusively for temperature measurement. The STS21 temperature sensor is based on the same chip as the earlier family and is housed in a tiny DFN package measuring 3x3 mm. This makes the sensor suitable for applications where only very limited space is available. It also delivers high accuracy of ±0.22°C over the temperature range of five to 60°C. The sensor is pin- and protocol-compatible with the company's standard SHT21 humidity sensor, but it has a different I2C address. This allows it to be used as alternative sensor where temperature measurement is required and humidity measurement is optional; the same hardware can be used with both sensors.
