STMicroelectronics has unveiled its IC for interactive HD personal video recorder and cable STBs (set-top boxes). The company is also supporting its latest IC, the STiH225, with a reference design that simplifies its latest designs that meet applicable DOCSIS (data over cable service interface specification) and EuroDOCSIS standards.
The IC integrates a complete interactive cable STB processor and analogue or digital interface on a single chip. It combines the functions of the company's STi7141 cable STB SoC and STV0130 three-channel analogue front end with an Ethernet physical interface.
Leveraging the architectural advantages of the cable STB SoC, the IC features dual-core processing for STB functions and broadband communication. The IC is software compatible with the cable STB SoC, taking advantage of DOCSIS 2.0 certification and support for Internet Protocol v6. A three-channel STB based on this IC can be completed using few additional components.
The IC features Linux, and is OS21 compatible. It also features multi-standard MPEG4 (moving picture experts group), H.264, and VC1, MPEG-2, society of motion picture and television engineers video decoding, multi-standard MPEG2, 3, and 4, Dolby digital, Dolby digital plus audio processing.
The IC has four USB ports and an eSATA interface to external hard disk drive. The IC features S-video, YPbPr and HDMI video output. It provides three channels downstream channel bonding up to 100Mbit/s.
