Kontron has introduced an AMC (advanced mezzanine card) processor module, the AM4140. Equipped with a Freescale QorIQ P4040/80 CPU with up to eight cores at 1.5GHz and high-speed fabrics, the processor module is suitable for parallel, multi-threaded applications on MicroTCA integrated platforms.
With high-speed frame handlers and multiple high-speed connections like SRIO (serial rapid IO), 10Gbit Ethernet and PCI Express, the processor module is suitable for multi-threaded processing, says the company. The processor module provides a fast dual-channel memory of up to 8Gbyte error correcting code-RAM.
On AMC ports 4 to 7, four serialiser and deserialiser lines can be configured either as PCI Express of root complex or end point or SRIO ports of host or agent. AMC ports 8 to 11 may be configured either for SRIO, PCI Express, 10GbE or 4GbE. In addition, the processor module supports 3GbE channels which can be configured to AMC port 0 plus 2GbE at the front or 2GbE on AMC ports 0,1 plus 1GbE at the front.
The micro SDHC (secure digital high capacity) card socket protects from regular flash discontinuation. The processor module supports different options of booting the OS, either from the micro SDHC card, the NOR or the NAND flash for rugged applications.
The company also offers a choice of AMC systems for the processor module. For instance, the company's MicroTCA system OM6060 can be used as entry level platform for operating the processor module with point to point fabrics PCI Express and SRIO in combination with the company's basic MCH AM4901 which provides Ethernet connectivity to all AMC slots. In this system, the processor module can be combined with I/O cards, DSP cards and different processor boards. The MicroTCA system OM6120 provides multiple connections over SRIO for up to 12AMCs in combination with the company's SRIO MCH AM4904. Alternatively 10GbE can be used in combination with the company's enterprise class MCH AM4910. The system also allows switching PCI Express fabrics in combination with SRIO MCH AM4904. The MicroTCA can be operated with dual MCHs. It supports VxWork 6.9, WindRiver Linux, as well as WindRiver Hypervisor.
