Avago Technologies has announced three high-speed optocouplers that deliver robust electrical signal isolation for IPM (intelligent power module) interface applications. The ACPL-M484 and ACPL-P484 optocouplers offer input-output withstand voltage of 3750Vrms and the ACPL-W484 device offers 5000Vrms, each for 1min for UL 1577-compliance. They meet IEC EN DIN EN 60747-5-2 approval with working voltage, Viorm of 560V peak for the ACPL-M484, 891V peak for the ACPL-P484, and 1140V peak for the ACPL-W484. The ACPL-M484 is housed in a SO-5 (small outline) package and the ACPL-P484 and the ACPL-W484 are available in stretched SO-6 packages. They are suitable for AC and brushless DC motor drives, industrial inverters, air conditioners, renewable energy inverters, sewing machines and switching power supplies, and gate drive applications and general digital isolation. With a common-mode rejection of 30kV/μs, the optocouplers prevent erroneous driving of an IPM. They have propagation delays of 100ns and also feature a 4.5 to 30V supply voltage, minimised pulse width distortion for fast drive, low Icc supply current to allow for bootstrap supplies, positive output type, and low LED drive current of 4mA (min). The Canadian Standards Association-approved optocouplers operate at 10MBd and work between -40 and 105°C.
