Evatronix has released a JPEG 2000 encoder IP core for audio and video connectivity inside an SoC used in digital cinema. The encoder features a multi-channel, single-core architecture and a controller, which is capable of processing the digital cinema initiatives 4K or 3D, full HD quality images at rates of 24 or 50 frames/s, respectively. The encoder has a resolution of over 1920x1080 pixels of the full HD format and supports colour depths from eight to 16bits/image component and the sub-sampling schemes such as 4:4:4, 4:2:2, 4:2:0, and 4:0:0. The input image resolution can be set at 16x16k, which totals more than 250Mpixel. Both loss less and lossy compression modes are available, based on the output image quality, says the company. The encoder features the open core protocol 2.2 socket and system bus wrappers. The controller compresses the data with a speed of up to 600Msamples/s.
