Power Integrations has announced the LinkSwitch-PH single-stage, primary-side controlled, LED driver ICs. They are in a low-profile 2mm, SIL for fluorescent tube replacements, industrial, commercial, and exterior solid-state lighting. The package features a heat transfer tab on top of the ICs which is electrically quiet. The ICs feature power factor of more than 0.9 and a topology claimed to eliminate the need for electrolytic capacitors and opto-isolators. The ICs can be used in a non-isolated, PFC, low THD, LED driver circuit that fits inside a T8 tube fixture. This design powers an LED string with a nominal voltage of 36V at a current of 330mA, and operates with input voltages of 90 to 265V AC. Positioning the power underneath the LED PCB leaves space for LEDs on the front of the panel, says the company.
