Infinite Power Solutions has introduced the Thinergy MEC200 series of MEC (micro-energy cell) for long-life battery powered applications. The series includes the MEC225, MEC220, MEC201, and MEC202 with capacity up to 0.13, 0.4, 1.0, and 2.5mAh, respectively. The MECs provide unmatched power density and cycle life in a paper-thin, form factor. With low self-discharge rate, the MECs provide near loss-less 4.1V energy storage. They contain no heavy metals or organic materials and feature a patented flex circuit encapsulation, an insulating layer on the cell's top side for short circuit protection. The positive and negative terminals are on the same edge of the cell, making the MECs easily stackable and able to be soldered to a rigid or flexiblePCB, says the company. When recharged over their lifetime, the MECs are said to provide tens of watt-hours of energy. When used with ambient energy-harvesting transducers, such as solar cells, thermoelectric generators, and piezoelectric materials, the MECs are said to deliver continuous, autonomous power to wireless sensor nodes, powered cards, medical devices and other micro-power systems. The MECs are housed in a 0.17mm package, solderable terminals, good charge acceptance at low charge currents, 4.1V constant voltage charge method, low leakage, and operate between -40 and +85°C.
