ON Semiconductor has introduced the MANO 9600, a CMOS image sensor for biometric applications such as fingerprint detection. The sensor is a rolling shutter 3840x2500pixel system, which runs at 20frame/s at full resolution. It is claimed to achieve a SNR performance of 41dB without the requirement for oversampling. It is available in both monochrome and colour versions and is housed in a 19x19mm leadless chip carrier 52 package. The image data is read out through gain and offset amplifiers before being fed to an on-board 10bit ADC. The digital data is then transferred via four LVDS outputs. The sensor also has a single 10bit CMOS output. An on-board sequencer generates all internal timing for exposure control and supports readout mode. The sensor features a charge pump, fixed pattern noise correction and bias control. It operates at power of 500 and 200mW with 20 and 5frame/s between 0 and +70ºC.
