International Rectifier has introduced the IRS2500S µPFC PFC (power factor correction) control IC for switch mode power supply, LED drivers, fluorescent and high intensity discharge electronic ballast applications.

The controller can be configured to operate in critical conduction boost PFC or flyback configuration. It also features a total harmonic distortion optimisation circuit to reduce line current harmonics.

The controller reduces noise sensitivity and eases PCB layout. It also features micro power start up current of less than 50µA, quiescent current of 2.5mA, drive capability of +800mA or -600mA as well as static and dynamic over-voltage and over-current protection. It is available in an SO-8 package.
