Support for HD multipoint voice and video calling has been added by TeamSpirit DSP to its TeamSpirit Engines. The software development kits are for real-time IP calling or conferencing communications. The engine software combines scalable echo- and noise-free audio with scalable video to ensure the highest quality conferencing experience, says the company. The combination enables many hours of battery life in wideband talk mode. The voice engine includes optimised standard voice codecs and a patent-free wideband, error-resilient scalable SPIRIT IP-MR voice codec (IETF RFC 6262). The video engine includes the company's H.264 scalable video codec that is able to adapt streams to each peer's network and PC environments without heavy transcoding. It also includes a multi-component stream protection module that compensates for network jitter and packet loss. A global study by Point Topic has found that value-added services generated $60 billion for vendors. VoIP was named as the most valuable service, with revenues at just over $17 billion at the end of 2010, with 120 million VoIP subscribers. A report by IDC tracks the videoconferencing market which saw an increase of 24.3% year-over-year in Q3 2011. The Voice and Video Engine Mobile, Conferencing Server Engine and Voice and Video Engine PC (version 3.2.2) upgrades support new versions of Apple's iOS (5) and Mac OS X (10.7) and Android handsets. They also provide support for Google's open source video codec VP8, offer compatibility with Google's and other open source products and eliminate expensive royalties associated with the standard MPEG H.264 video codec. There is also claimed to be improved loss protection for video stream across all networks and increased performance, in terms of frame/s of H.264 video. Other enhancements are improved rendering with Android's OpenGL ES video and decreased media delay for voice and video calls. There are also new APIs for camera switching, arbitrary viewports, image mirroring and device orientation, which can be used to develop sophisticated video calling applications. A virtual camera interface is included for custom video streaming from mobile devices.
