Molex has designed indoor- and outdoor-rated ruggedised SC-APC (standard connector-angled physical contact) cable assemblies and 4.8mm connectors that are suitable for use in datacomms and telecomms applications. The SC-APC cables and connectors are suitable for fibre to the x installation and harsh industrial settings such as mining, oil refineries, heavy-duty equipment and automation environments. The connectors offer up to a 5mm bend radius and deliver an optical return loss of -60dB, which is suitable for transmitting large quantities of data and video signals. The bend insensitive fibre cables optimise signal transmission in applications where cable routing space is restrictive, says the company. All SC-APC versions employ pre-radius precision ceramic ferrules and a one-piece body design. The pre-polished ceramic ferrules are claimed to minimise polishing time and maintain the end-face geometry. The connectors provide a push-pull coupling mechanism tested to the industry standards. Many simplex and duplex mating SC adapters are available, including snap- or screw- mount installation, and optional adapter shutters. The adapters feature a spring-loaded shutter that closes automatically when a connector is removed from the adapter to shield against exposure to laser radiation and dust contamination.
